Affymetrix University

Affymetrix University is a series of hands-on training courses designed to give researchers a head start in data analysis by emphasizing biological interpretation and final publication of analysis results.

Affymetrix University

Minimizing the Analysis Bottleneck

"The ultimate goal of Affymetrix University is to enable researchers to apply concepts from training sessions to their own research to facilitate rapid and appropriate analysis."

Affymetrix University Data Analysis courses are ideal if you are:

  • New to microarrays or a new microarray application and frustrated with data analysis
  • Looking guidance to avoid lengthy and expensive setbacks during data analysis of your experiment
  • Frustrated with delays when relying on external data analysis collaborations and want to get to the biology of your study faster
  • Concerned about properly designing expression experiments that will minimize unwanted noise and promote effective analysis
  • Seeking ways to publish your study faster and help ensure appropriate analysis of your data

Benefits of Affymetrix University

  • Fast track to data analysis - Focused training courses that cover entire analytical pipeline, from experimental design to final biological interpretation, enabling faster time to publication
  • Hands-on training environment - Learn theoretical aspects of analysis and apply concepts to real-world data sets during practical exercises
  • Analysis software - Short-term licenses for commercial software used in the training are included for all participants to use post-session
  • Social networking event - Meet and interact with fellow attendees and course instructors

Customer Testimonials

"I feel much more informed about the entire process of conducting a microarray experiment, what kinds of microarrays and analysis tools are available, and how to design and analyze my own microarray experiments in the future.

I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who is interested in gaining a better understanding and interpretation of their past, present and/or future microarray experiments."

- Dr. Cicely Jette, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

"The course was very well conducted, with the sessions being pitched at the right level and the right pace to keep the audience engaged from beginning to end. The hands-on analysis sessions with one-on-one help were a bonus as were the take-home course materials, sample datasets, and software licenses."

- Dr. Ramakrishna Manasa, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Each Affymetrix University training course combines hands-on exercises with theoretical presentations and guest speaker seminars over several days. Sessions are limited to 20 participants; laptops are provided for use during the training.

Who Should Attend?

Biologists who are currently working with microarray data, planning their first microarray experiment or preparing to scale up a pilot study.

Affymetrix University courses are designed for novice to intermediate microarray users who are interested in gaining practical experience analyzing data, as well as theoretical expertise in common analysis methods. Specific focus is given to biologists seeking to design better microarray experiments, ensure appropriate quality control and statistical methods and/or effectively investigate the biological interpretation of their results.

How do I register?

Affymetrix University training courses are offered internationally and are charged on a per-seat basis. Pricing and availability for each course vary. Please see the individual course pages or contact us for more information.

What do I need to bring?

Attendees are provided with all the materials required for the training course. One laptop computer is provided for each participant for use during the training as well as course books, exercise data sets, supplementary data and additional materials for use after the course. Participants are encouraged to bring their own data for examination during one of the final exercises.

On-site training and group rate discounts

Affymetrix University courses can be hosted at Affymetrix, or on site at a research institute. Discounted group rates are available for dedicated local courses for larger labs, research institutes or core facilities. For more information on booking a group training session or co-promoting Affymetrix University courses, please contact AffymetrixUniversity@Affymetrix.com.
